Kambara+ is a platform for dance performance experiences that cultivate a sense of belonging for audience members, collaborators, and performers.
I was tasked to construct a brand identity that encapsulates the mission, feel, and intention of the budding dance company for their inaugural season.
We define equity as Belonging.
Design Approach
PROCESS
The aim of founder and choreographer Yayoi Kambara was to foster a collaborative environment where artistic creation transcends individual voices. I aimed to infuse the logo and identity with a sense of incompleteness, symbolizing unity with performers, artists, and audiences. The company served as just one component of the larger artistic endeavor.
Additionally, drawing upon my background as a professional dancer, I aimed to capture a sense of movement within a 2D space, employing fragmentation to portray action. I also explored the utilization and occupancy of space.
OUTCOME
By establishing a unique and memorable identity, Kambara+ positioned itself as a leading modern dance company in The Bay Area, distinguishing it from the conventional branding found in other dance companies.
